Heartland Funds' shareholders have elected a group of six Directors to represent them. Over 80% of our Funds' Board members are independent, and each brings substantial business experience and mutual fund expertise.

William J. Nasgovitz
Bill is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Heartland Advisors, Inc. As a member of the portfolio management team of the Heartland Value Fund, a two time Forbes Honor Roll winner, and separately managed accounts, he brings over 40 years of value investing experience to the clients of Heartland Advisors.
Bill currently serves on the Board of Junior Achievement of Wisconsin and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business.
Dale J. Kent
Dale has served on our Board since August 2003. Dale serves as chair of the audit committee and as the Funds' financial expert. He has been the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at West Bend Mutual Insurance Company since July 2002. Previously, he was a Partner at Arthur Andersen LLP from 1986 to 2002 and employed by Arthur Andersen LLP from 1974 to 1985, during which time he served numerous asset managers and securities firms.
Ward D. Armstrong
Ward has been a member of our Board of Directors since February 2008. His experience includes serving as Senior Vice President at Ameriprise Financial, Inc. from 1984 to 2007, as President of American Express Asset Management from 2002 to 2004 and as Chairman of Ameriprise Trust Company from 1996 to 2007.
Robert A. Rudell
Bob has been Chairman of the Board since January 2006 and a director since February 2005. His experience includes serving as Chief Operating Officer at Zurich Scudder Investments from 1998 to 2002, President of Scudder Retirement Services from 1996 to 1998 and was employed by IDS/American Express as President of Institutional Retirement Services and other capacities from 1973 to 1996.
Michael D. Dunham
Mike has been a Director of Heartland Funds since January 2004 and also serves as the chair of the nominating committee. He is currently the President of DGA Real Estate, LLC and President and Owner of Dunham Global Associates, Ltd. His experience includes Chairman of the Board of Merge Technologies, Inc. from 2006 to 2008, Senior Vice President of IFS AB from 2000 to 2006, and Co-Founder and CEO of Effective Management Systems, Inc. from 1978 to 1999.
Kenneth A. Kavajecz
Ken, a Director of Heartland Funds since February 2008, has been an Associate Dean of the undergraduate program at the University of Wisconsin - Madison since 2008. He has also served as Associate Dean of the Masters Programs, University of Wisconsin - Madison since 2006 and Associate Professor of Finance, University of Wisconsin-Madison since 2004. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor of Finance, University of Wisconsin - Madison, from 2003 to 2004, Assistant Professor at The Wharton School from 1997 to 2003, and as Assistant Economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Division of Monetary Affairs from 1988 to 1992. He was a member of the Economic Advisory Board at Nasdaq from 2002 to 2004 and served as Chairman of that Board in 2004.
Ken received his PhD from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, has been published in many top financial journals, and won the Gaumnitz Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award from the University of Wisconsin School of Business in 2008.
